QP - Tune and Position

 

The QP (Tune & Positioin) section is mainly responsible for :

  • Design, build and maintain the instruments that allow measurement of the beam tune (Q), chromaticity (Q’) and coupling (C-) of the CPS, SPS and LHC.
  • Design, build and maintain the instruments that allow measurement of the beam position (P) in the SPS, LHC and many of its transfer lines (TT2, TT10, TT60, TI2, TT40, TI8, CNGS and HighRadMat).
  • Design, build and maintain the instruments that allow a LHC distributed measurement of the beam intensity (I) through the pick-ups sum signal on the LHC.
  • Provide support on the design and test of beam position monitors for other communities like the RF group (BPAWT), TOTEM experience, FP420, collimators, etc.
  • Implement and maintain the feedback systems for the LHC orbit, tune, chromaticity, coupling and energy.
  • The design, installation and maintenance of the Beam Synchronous Timing system used for many other LHC and SPS beam instruments and the LHC experiences.
  • Collaborate in the maintenance and studies of the instruments that allow measure the longitudinal bunch length on the LHC beams by monitoring the beam synchrotron radiation.
  • Maintain the LHC schottky diagnostics.
  • Collaborate on the beam instrumentation design and specifications for new machines like CLIC and Linac 4.
  • Collaborate on the design, manufacture and test of the IBMS cards used on the FBCT.
  • Design, build and maintain the LHC wall current monitors.
  • Centralise the optical fibre demands for the Beam Instrumentation group.
